What your move to Greece will cost
All amounts in Swiss francs (CHF). Customs duty, VAT and registration tax fall away, but you still pay the registration fees.
The conditions
You have lived outside Greece for the last 24 months before the move, at least 185 days a year.
You have used the car yourself for at least 6 months before the move. It is listed on the Greek consulate’s certificate of moving and must be fully yours when you apply: buy out a leased car first.
You bring it to Greek customs within 12 months of the move.
You keep it for at least 12 months after clearance: no selling, giving away, renting out, pledging or letting others use it.
The relief is once per person, for one car. The car needs emission standard Euro 4 or newer and, because it is registered in Switzerland, the EU emission standard that applied when it was first registered (CoC).
Then there is no Greek duty, VAT or registration tax. If you sell the car later, you need customs approval for up to 5 years after clearance and pay part of the registration tax.
